 Sunset Specials 2003

Blue Anchor sunset. ©Alan Grieve The Sunset Specials give you the opportunity of making an evening journey from Minehead to Blue Anchor, when the train passes through Dunster and alongside the Bristol Channel coast. Sunset Specials run from Minehead on Wednesday evenings from late-May to early-September 2003.

The steam-hauled Sunset Specials will operate on the following Wednesday evenings

  • 28 May
  • 4, 11, 18, 25 June
  • 2, 9, 16, 23, 30 July
  • 6, 13, 20, 27 August
  • 3 September

The special train departs from Minehead station at 8.00pm (7.30pm on 3 September), and arrives back in Minehead around 9.15pm (8.45pm on 3 September).

Upon arrival at Blue Anchor, passengers have 45 minutes to

  • take a leisurely stroll along the beach and sea front
  • enjoy watching the sunset over Blue Anchor Bay
  • visit the Railway Museum at Blue Anchor Station
  • see the inside of the station signalbox
  • visit the Driftwood Cafe

Please be very careful when leaving the station to visit the beach area, as the exit through the wicket gate puts you straight onto the curve of the seafront road behind the signal box and there can be lots of traffic around and there is no pavement at this point.

There will be full bar and buffet facilities on the train serving locally produced food and drinks including Somerset brewed beers and ciders, hot and cold drinks, pasties, sandwiches, biscuits and cakes.

The train fares for the Sunset Specials are

  • Adult & senior Citizen - £4.40
  • Child (age 5 to 15) - £2.20

Seats on the Sunset Specials do NOT need to be booked in advance - just turn up on the day and enjoy the journey!
