Kingfisher Railtours say "This is the final gala weekend at the West Somerset Railway for 2008 and promises to be a very exciting day out. It is hoped that SR Pacific 34046 Braunton will be in operation. Travel behind the only Southern Railway King Arthur Class locomotive to survive from the 1960s from the South Western Railway base at Eastleigh. A truly wonderful journey to Taunton (and Minehead) via Salisbury and Bristol behind this unique engine. Diners in Premier will enjoy a fabulous english breakfast on departure from Hampshire and Wiltshire stations and a sumptuous 4-course dinner on our return journey. Our destination is either Taunton or over the whole West Somerset Railway branch line. This journey from Bishops Lydeard to Minehead depend on the engineering state of the railway following recent concerns over the track condition for large locomotives. If it is not possible for our locomotive Sir Lamiel to travel the whole line, our train will terminate at the West Somerset Railways station at Lydeard for transfer to their train. The Gala event at the West Somerset promises to be an exciting affair. With the newly installed turntable at Minehead, it is hope that we can watch our engine turn before we depart for Hampshire again! So, join this unique train which is a rarity from the Hampshire and Wiltshire area and enjoy the powerful King Arthur Class at its very best! " More...
