Mixed Traction Weekend 5, 6, 7 June 2015

Diesels at home in the West...

The West Somerset Railway proudly presents a weekend of heritage diesel traction with a selection of visiting and home fleet diesel locomotives running to an intensive timetable on 5 to 7 June 2015.

Friday 5 June will be a 'Diesel Only' timetable all day including a Friday evening 'Super Train', whilst Saturday 6 June and Sunday 7 June will see predominately diesel haulage with just one steam locomotive in service to satisfy the non-diesel enthusiast.

Seven main line heritage diesel locomotives are expected to run during the three day event.

  • Semi-fast diesel hauled express between Norton Fitzwarren and Minehead on Saturday and Sunday
  • Diesel hauled freight trains operating on Friday and Saturday
  • DMU shuttle service between Bishops Lydeard and Norton Fitzwarren on the Friday
  • 'Top and Tail' local services between Bishops Lydeard and Norton Fitzwarren on Saturday and Sunday
  • Minehead to Dunster shuttle by DMU on Saturday and Sunday
  • Real ale and fish &chips special eleven coach train on Friday 5 June. Fish and chips served on the departure from Minehead (must be booked in advance)
  • Refreshments on all mainline trains and at principal stations
  • Avoid the queues - 1, 2 and 3 day Rover Tickets available online in advance or by phone - maintained at 2012 prices
  • Taunton Model Railway Club open at Bishops Lydeard Station on all three days
  • Gauge Museum and Model Railway at Bishops Lydeard Station open on all three days
  • Powderham Signal Box exhibit in Gauge Museum, Bishops Lydeard Station in operation on 6 & 7 June
  • Somerset and Dorset Railway Trust's Museum and Yard open at Washford Station on all three days
  • West Somerset Steam Railway Trust Museum at Blue Anchor open on all three days
  • Second hand model railway trader in the DEPG Depot at Williton on all three days

Bus link on Saturday 6 June 2015...

To help folks travelling by main line train to connect with the early and late Minehead Branch trains on the Saturday of the Mixed Traction Weekend, the Railway will be operating a bus shuttle service between Taunton Railway Station and Bishops Lydeard Station on Saturday 6 June 2015. The bus, from the Crosville fleet, will pick up from Taunton Railway Station downside at 8.30am, 9.30am and 10.30am. In the evening, the bus will leave Bishops Lydeard Station at 5.25pm, 6.15pm and 7.04pm running direct to Taunton Railway Station.
