• Letter to staff from the Managing Director...
Saturday 26th February 2005

A special train has been chartered by "DIRECT", as part of the public protest against the proposed building of West Somerset District Council Offices, Minehead Town Council Offices, Registry Offices, Social Services Offices, a Library and Retail Superstore Developments on the car parks adjacent to the Railway’s site at Minehead. The train will operate in the following times:

Minehead Ready at 1100 hrs
Train departs at 1115 hrs

Train to call as required at intermediate stations:

Blue Anchor 1128
Washford 1136
Watchet 1144
Williton arrives 1150

March to District Council Offices to deliver a petition.

Williton departs 1300
Watchet 1305
Washford 1313
Blue Anchor 1320
Minehead arrives 1335

If you wish to add your support to the protest you may:

· sign the petition.

· join the protest rally and travel on the train (please wear identifiable railway uniform or overalls if you wish). No fares are being charged.

All working parties may stop work as required to add their support to the protest.

The Company’s Board of Directors will meet passengers at Minehead Station from 1045 hrs prior to their (rather important) Board Meeting.

Note: All staff should be aware that the Company has held a number of meetings with Officers and elected members of the District Council. Whilst we have received sympathetic and courteous hearing, and some minor alterations to the designs have been made, the proposed development will reduce accessibility and the availability of car parking at Minehead Station. It will not enhance our ability to attract visitors to Minehead and aesthetically will overshadow our increasingly impressively restored Victorian station buildings.
