 • A request from WSR Plc and WSRA
The West Somerset Railway is currently producing a new souvenir guide book and is seeking colour photographs to include in the publication. These can be of WSR trains in action, of events and stations along the line or just of people volunteering and passengers generally enjoying themselves. The text has been written by John Simms, and David Williams is co-ordinating production. Pictures submitted will be returned if accompanied by a stamped addressed envelope. Pictures (slides or digital photos on disc) should be sent to David at the Journal editorial address or via e-mail to the Association office at wsra@btconnect.com As the time-scale is quite tight for this publication, contributions would be appreciated by 21st June 2008.
Silver Link publishing are to produce a second volume featuring the Minehead branch in its 'Past & Present Companion' series. The first volume proved very popular and has recently been reprinted after being unavailable for several years. The books feature past pictures of locations, accompanied by more up to date pictures to show how the scene has changed over the years. If anyone has past pictures of the branch which they might like to submit for consideration these would be welcomed. The definition of 'past' refers mostly to pictures taken before the re-opening of 1976, going back to British Railways days and the GWR before them, though good quality pictures taken up to the mid-1980s will also be considered. It will be an undoubted challenge to find more pictures of the branch, but it is amazing what can turn up, and there is still the hope that some seldom-seen images might be found which would be of interest to the many supporters of the line! Enquiries can be made through the Journal Editor, David Williams, on 0121 422 1085 or via e-mail at the Association office at wsra@btconnect.com It is hoped to have collected together all pictures for consideration by the end of July 2008. The book is expected to be launched at the Spring Steam Gala in March 2009. Pictorial contributions towards this project will be greatly appreciated.
