This is the second year of the West Somerset Railway's Mixed Traffic event and this year promises to be the best yet. This year's theme is Diesels in the South West 1968 featuring a mix of diesel electric and diesel hydraulic traction with two steam locomotives thrown in for good measure. At Williton you will have the chance to visit the excellent Diesel Heritage Centre, which features much information about the early Western Region diesels in particular. The shed/workshop of the Diesel & Electric Preservation Group will also be open, offering a rare glimpse inside, and several diesel locomotives will be on display in the yard, some of which can be cabbed. The DEPG sheds and yard area will be open on all three days, 10am to 5pm. Please note the engineering base of the WSRA, and the area around it, will not be open over the Mixed Traffic Weekend. A special souvenir programme - which will include the complete working timetables and the loco rosters for all three days - will be available in advance (from 9 June) and from stations over the event, priced £2.50
A full bar and buffet service will be available throughout the Gala on most trains.

Museums & Model Railways...

The museums at Bishops Lydeard, Washford and Blue Anchor will all be open. Trackwork display at Crowcombe Heathfield. Taunton Model Railway Group's base at Bishops Lydeard will also be open the three days.
A special free bus service linking Taunton Station, the Park and Ride car park at Silk Mill and Bishops Lydeard will run at least every 30 minutes on all three days. The service will start from 9.30am collecting from under the Taunton Station Bridge each day with the last bus connecting with the final train arrival at Bishops Lydeard.
In addition, First buses run a half hourly service from adjacent to the down platform at Taunton. Please note the First bus service is not free.
On Friday 13 June and Saturday 14 June we will be running Class 08 shuttle services from Bishops Lydeard towards Norton Fitzwarren and Class 03 shuttle services from Minehead towards Blue Anchor. At the southern end of the line, Class 08 diesel shunters nos D3462 and 08643 will top n tail the Norton Fitzwarren shuttle, leaving Bishops Lydeard on the Friday at 9.30am, 10.20am, 11.25am, 12.25pm, 2.20pm and 4.15pm, and on the Saturday at 9.30am, 10.10am. 1.30pm. 2.40 and 3.00pm. Meantime, two Class 03 diesel shunters will top n tail the Blue Anchor shuttle, leaving Minehead at 10.25am, 11.40am, 12.30pm, 2.10pm and 3.20pm on the Friday, and 10.40am, 12.30pm, 2.15pm and 3.10pm on the Saturday.
A comprehensive timetable is in operation on each of the three days of the events with extra steam services on the Sunday 15 June for Fathers Day. On the Saturday of the event the 11.40 non-stop from Bishops Lydeard will go via Norton Fitzwarren and then run non-stop to Minehead.
Please note that all privilege tickets, free passes and voucher facilities will not apply at the Mixed Traffic Weekend.
