First regular public trains from Minehead to Taunton and Bristol for thirty years
Through trains from Bristol for holidaymakers and locals will run to Minehead from Friday 20 July. For the first time since the branch line between Taunton and Minehead was closed as part of the "Beeching Cuts" in January 1971 regular public service trains will be running between Minehead, Taunton and Bristol on selected dates through the peak summer.
The trains are the outcome of several months of planning between The West Somerset Railway, Butlins, Mainline Rail and Victa Westlink Rail, the last of whom will provide the train services. There has also needed to be complex negotiations with Network Rail and the Office of the Rail Regulator.

These services will run on Mondays, Fridays and Saturdays between Friday 20 July and Monday 27 August inclusive.

The trains will be worked by diesel locomotives and air-conditioned coaches provided by Mainline Rail and will offer passengers from the Wales, the Midlands and North of England the opportunity to travel direct to West Somerset by changing at Bristol, whilst passengers from London and the South East, plus those from the South West of England will be able to change at Taunton.

For journeys between WSR stations and Taunton only, reduced rates are available for WSR Local Residents Travel Card holders. Please note that reduced rates are not available for the return fares to Bristol.

Trains from Bristol will stop at Taunton to pick up passengers before joining the Minehead Branch and calling at all WSR stations to Minehead. Trains from Minehead call at all WSR stations except Stogumber and Crowcombe Heathfield, before calling at Taunton to set down passengers for the County Town, and then non-stop to Bristol. Tickets for Bristol to Taunton only or vice versa are not available - journeys must be made to and from a WSR station. To travel on these trains you must be travelling to or from the WSR - the service does not accept national network tickets, also the Freedom of the South West Rail Rovers is also not valid on this service.
