Fifty four volunteers signed onto the Log Train on Saturday, with eleven more volunteers acting as loco crew or signalmen. Passenger accommodation was provided by three guards vans, including one of the 'new' BR 20T vans.

The train left Bishops Lydeard at 9.20am behind no 7820 "Dinmore Manor" - the last Tidy Train for the Manor for a while.

By the time Dunster was reached at 3pm the three 'Turbots', the 'Weltrol' and two 'Elks' were groaning under an estimated 40-50 tons of timber. Having loaded it all on the train another three quarters of an hour was spent unloading it onto the ground ready for later collection and sale.

Not content with our labours we moved on to lay ¼ mile of concrete troughing at Dunster Sea Lane before returning to Lydeard a little late at 6.30pm.

Nobody was seriously broken, although several could hardly walk at the end of the day and I suspect everyone slept well!

I think the size of the load on this 'proper' WSR goods train surprised many along the way and I offer my heartfelt thanks to any and all who were involved in planning, helping or supporting the Log Train in any way.
