The day Henbury went to Bristol...

In the mid 1970s, the Somerset & Dorset Railway Trust moved "Henbury", an 0-6-0ST no 1940 of 1937 built in Bristol by Peckett, to Washford along with other stock in care. On 12 March 1978, the locomotive was steamed and after shunting the sidings at Washford, the locomotive took the main road and set off for a rendezvous with a low-loader for the road journey to the Bristol Industrial Museum.

The Somerset & Dorset Railway Trust is based at Washford on the West Somerset Railway. The Trust's aim are to preserve the memory of the long lost Somerset & Dorset Railway which ran until 1966 from Bournemouth on the south coast, up through the Dorset meadows to the Mendip Hills in Somerset, and on to the cathedral city of Bath.
