• A new station for the West Somerset...
Recent clearance work by the local GGwR Lengthmen, a sub-group of the main Cutting Back Gang, has revealed the site of the old Churchlands Halt, alongside Churchlands Bridge.

The track level halt is to be resurrected for use by the auto train allowing alighting passengers view the trackside beautification and enjoy refreshments at the nearby pub which is just three minutes walk away. The chef, Paolo Firl, is keen to enhance his reputation for Italian cooking by developing a 'travel by train for lunch' package which will also benefit the WSR.

The auto train can be scheduled as a 15 minute round trip from Bishops Lydeard, within the existing timetable. Two round trips, incorporating Norton Fitzwarren will allow passengers adequate time for lunch at pub, and provide a 'taster' for other passengers who may only wish to travel a short distance. Party bookings are expected to be brisk especially in April when the spring flowers are at their best.

As can be seen in the photograph only minimal excavation is required around the scar of an old bonfire to create a flat area for the construction of a wooden platform; and the old steps behind the bonfire site will be widened and made safe to modern standards. Guards will be trained to operate the autotrailer steps. To raise funds, down trains will slow for passengers to throw their loose change into a barrel located on the site. Watch this space.
