The Railway, since reopening in 1976, has always welcomed cyclists, and has been able to offer a large safe area to store cycles during the rail journey, whilst the riders enjoy a comfortable seat, with refreshments from the on-board buffet.
Cyclists have quite a choice of journeys when the train is used to share the load. With ten stations spaced out along the twenty mile line, some people opt for a short trip by train from one station to the next, and then cycle back. Others may cycle to the other end and catch the train back. And there are clearly many other options, especially as ticket-holders can break their train journey, maybe at an intermediate station, then cycle to the next station or the one after that, and catch a later train service.
The people behind CYCLE SOMERSET have amassed loads of information about cycling in Somerset, with plenty of West Somerset examples, including some involving the train. We suggest you visit CYCLE SOMERSET for more details.
