 Autumn Steam Gala 2002

King unleased ©Stephen Edge The Autumn Steam Gala, run over the weekend of 6,7 8 September 2002, was blessed with mostly good weather, reasonable timekeeping and notable for the appearance of the two newly-restored GWR "Small Prairies" nos 5542 and 5553.

The highlights included some stirring runs by "King Edward I", the Gala goods, double-heading, and the unexpected additional turns for home-based no 5542. Minehead shed was open for viewing.

Most trains were well-filled, the station platforms thronged with passengers and visitors, and the shop at Bishops Lydeard was still taking money as the sun set in the west...
