 • Where is the Railway...
The Railway runs from Bishops Lydeard in the Vale of Taunton Deane not far from Taunton and the M5, through the hilly area of West Somerset between the Quantock and Brendon Hills with a coastal run from Watchet ending by the beach at Minehead under the towering Exmoor hills. Location Map
Many visitors join the West Somerset Railway at Bishops Lydeard Station, which is just five miles from Taunton. If you are coming by the M5 motorway from the north, leave at Junction 25, and follow the brown "WSR" tourist signs through Taunton, onto the A358 towards Minehead. Don't take the road to Bishops Lydeard village, but continue on the main road for about half-a-mile, before turning left. Take the next left for the main car park. If you are coming by the M5 motorway from the south, leave at Junction 26, and make for Taunton on the A38. When you enter the outskirts of Taunton, turn left at the first roundabout, following the brown "WSR" tourist signs, onto the A358 towards Minehead, then find Bishops Lydeard Station as described above.

For those wishing to start at the seaside end, Minehead Station can be found right on the seafront at Minehead. There are several nearby pay-and-display car parks. Map of Minehead Station

 • How much does it cost...

For example, during 2006, excepting Special Events, the Standard adult day return ticket from Bishops Lydeard to Minehead and back, costs £11.80.
• Please note during Special Events - shown in brown on the Traditional Timetable Calendar - special fares will apply. The principal fares for Special Events will appear on the pages for each event when available.
